Fire Sprinklers in Wales
On 1st January 2016, Wales made history by becoming the first country in the world to introduce legislation for the mandatory installation of fire sprinklers in all new homes.
Fast forward to October 2018 and Nationwide Fire Sprinklers is proud to announce the opening of their Wales branch, allowing us to serve our Welsh customers with a dedicated and local team. From highly experienced and certified designers, installers and customer service to the peace of mind that using a 3rd party accredited company keeps you safe in the knowledge you’re in expert hands.
The Wales Scenario
The Welsh Government had amended Approved Document B volumes 1 and 2, with new regulations and guidance. The amendments to the documents arise from the Domestic Fire Safety (Wales) Regulations, resulting in a new Section 7A ‘Automatic Fire Suppression Systems’ in the Building Regulations 2010 Statutory Instrument. Section 7A introduces regulations 37A and 37B, requiring all new ‘domestic premises’ to have a fire suppression system installed. A fire suppression system is defined as an automatic system that controls and extinguishes fires without human intervention – most commonly we see the use of fire sprinkler systems, but water mist is also another option.
Does my building need fire sprinklers?
The requirements apply throughout Wales and apply to new build and change of use applications cover –
- New houses and flats
- Care homes
- Rooms for residential purposes (other than in a hotel, hospital, prison or short stay leisure hostel)
- Registered group homes and sheltered housing
If your project falls under one of these then, don’t delay – getting our expert design team at the earliest stages can help with project efficiencies and save money.
In the UK there has never been a fire death in a building with a fully maintained sprinkler system
Fires are extinguished or controlled in 99% of sprinkler protected properties
Reduce average property loss by up to 70%

“Nearly everywhere I go (at least, doing talks for BAFSA) I’m getting good reports about Nationwide Fire Sprinklers Ltd.
These have come from building control people, customers and other building professionals. The latest one was re a project in Carlisle.
Keep up the good work!”

Sean installed the sprinkler today so I’m just about all set.
I just wanted to say I’m really happy with the customer service I received from you all including Sean.
It’s incredible what a difference it makes. I was initially quite frustrated at the building regs for having to install the sprinkler system but from my first phone call with Ash I felt it was a manageable process and that I was in the right hands.
I’m not the best at admin or reading drawings etc so I’ve been on the phone more than expected but each time I called I came away feeling comfortable knowing how to move forward.
“Further to a conversation with an extremely efficient young lady in your office I attach hereto initial plans for a proposed terrace of 5 No 3 bed houses for a quotation.”

We had our sprinkler system serviced on Wednesday 22nd August. Unfortunately, we didn’t ask the young engineer for his name. However, we just wanted to let you know that he carried out the work in a most professional way. He arrived on time, explained what he was doing every step of the way. tested the equipment to his and our satisfaction and was generally very pleasant and enthusiastic about his work.
So often customers only contact businesses when there is a problem. However, we felt that we should let this young man’s employers know that they have an exemplary employee on their pay roll.
